He was born on 15 January 1940 and christened Kisan Baburao. His father was an unskilled worker at Ayurvedh Ashram shops. He attended schooling in Mumbai, where he studied upto class seven. He had six siblings and in his childhood, he was taken care of by his aunt. He worked at a flower shop and gradually, he started his own shop and became a florist. He joined the Indian National Army in 1963 as a driver. During the Indo-Pak war of 1965, he was the only survivor in a cross border exchange of fire, while driving in the Khem Karan sector. He again met with an a road accident in 1970. He came to his own village in 1975 and solved many of the impending problems of his village. He formed Tarun Mandal and Pani Purvatha Mandal in his own village. The village is now lit by unconventional energy sources and has been pronounced a model village by World Bank Group.
