One for the Geeks!!!!

The X project began in Ivrea, Italy (the site of the computer company Olivetti), in 2005. Founders Massino Banzi and David Cuartielles named the project after X of Ivrea, the main historical character of the town. X of Ivrea (955–1015) was Margrave of Ivrea and King of Italy. He was the son of Dado, Count of Pombia. Arduin succeeded to the northern Italian Margraviate of Ivrea in 990 on dubious grounds. He was excommunicated for the murder of the Bishop of Vercelli in 997.

"X" is an Italian masculine first name, meaning "strong friend". The English version of the name is "Hardwin".

Necker Island is a small island in the British Islands just north of Gorda, located in the Atlantic Ocean .

The island was named after the 17th century Dutch squadron commander Johannes de Neckere, although it remained uninhabited until the late 20th century.

In 1965 the celebrated photographer Don McCullin and the journalist Andrew Alexander, spent fourteen days on the island at the behest of the Telegraph newspaper for whom they worked. The magazine editor had hoped that they would survive their castaway adventure for at least three weeks, but as McCullin later recounted, "because of our gathering weakness (…) out of temper, and out of water, we hoisted the red flag and were taken off in the early hours of the fifteenth day". According to McCullin, there was nothing idyllic about the desert island: "It was inhabited by snakes, scorpions and tarantulas (…) The mosquitos and other insects were more venomous and persistent than any I had encountered in Vietnam or the Congo."

A rare species of gecko, the Necker Island Dwarf Gecko lives and breeds here. The fauna include reptiles and primates.

To whom was this island sold in 1978?

X tells this to Y when he meets Y for the first time.

See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... and one night, one night they decide they don't like living in an asylum any more. They decide they're going to escape! So, like, they get up onto the roof, and there, just across this narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in the moon light... stretching away to freedom. Now, the first guy, he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend didn't dare make the leap. Y'see... Y'see, he's afraid of falling. So then, the first guy has an idea... He says 'Hey! I have my flashlight with me! I'll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk along the beam and join me!' B-but the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says... He says 'Wh-what do you think I am? Crazy? You'd turn it off when I was half way across!

Massachussets Institute of Technology, one of the most renowned colleges for Science and Technology, has its college admission process scheduled in two ways to suit both American students as well as international students. A Regular American student has fill in an application by August with his or her biographical form. They are later called for an interview with an MIT alumnus and evaluated in Mathematics, Science and Humanities. The interview is usually held during December and the evaluation process takes place in January. They also undergo the SAT, ACT or TOEFL tests during January. The international students undergo a process which is similiar to the American recruiting process. They fill in an online application form during August and undertake TOEFL during January or February and submit their Midyear Report at the same time. The decisions are usually taken during the end of that academic year as to whom to admit.

Now, MIT often dispatches the application decision letters to its chosen applicants ( the prospective students) on a specific day at the end of the academic year. MIT chooses this day to send the letters as a tribute to Math and Science.
