The history of X dates back to 1906 when it had eight stars, the sun, the moon and a Bengali saying on it. It was modified in 1907 to include a lotus along with the stars and the background colours were changed. In 1915, it was changed to have alternating red and green patterns with a central theme in left corner with seven stars and a crescent. For the first time in 1921, a weaving apparatus was included in X with three changed colours. The present X was born on July 22,1947.

It was first displayed at the Council House. X was designed by the man in the picture.
