Bangalore in India has played the host to many a people of international renown. One of them was X. X was transferred to Bangalore in October 1896 as a part of his military career. X, in his memoirs, talks about the climate, sport and other things in Bangalore. He was allotted "a magnificent pink and white stucco palace in the middle of a large and beautiful garden" for his stay. X started a butterfly collection in Bangalore and had to drop it because it was attacked by rats. X was considered one of the best polo players in his regiment and led his team to many prestigious tournament victories. X fell in love for the first time with a girl called Pamela Flowden and wrote to his mother saying She was, "The most beautiful girl I have ever seen, Bar none and also very clever . In his memoir named “My Early Life”, he also says that he became a member of the Bangalore Club, one of the most prestigious clubs in India. (Seen below is its logo). X still owes a sum of `13 to the Bangalore Club and X’s name can be still viewed under the list of members who have outstanding dues.
